Would Jesus conceal and carry?

In the wake of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School, the gun control debate rages.

One of Jesus' most prominent teaching was to “turn the other cheek.” Yet many white conservative Christians own guns (57 percent according to a recent survey).

Religion News Service columnist Mark Silk wrote recently about the Second Amendment and scripture and quoted a conservative Baptist blogger on the issue of gun control and Jesus saying: “As a Christian, I may choose not to bear arms, to turn the other cheek, and to live like Jesus Christ lived. But as an American, I will resist any effort by the state to take weapons from her citizens. Natural Law demands this of me.”

Some evangelicals say it's their God-given right to own a gun – even a high-powered one.

What say you?

One Response to “Would Jesus conceal and carry?”

“Some evangelicals say it’s their God-given right to own a gun.” If these same misguided Christians believe this, I would ask that they leave God and Jesus out of it! If these same misguided souls continue to sanctify guns, they need to be personally prepared to get shot themselves or have their family and friends murdered or killed by accident. Small price to pay though to be Matt Dillon.
