If you could match the divine to a sound, what would it be?
Would it be a rushing wind as it says in Acts or rolling thunder or royal trumpets?
Some say Morgan Freeman's voice best matches God's. And of course, there's a Facebook page devoted just to this theory. Or maybe God sounds more like James Earl Jones or Garrison Keillor.
Or is it a tinkling bell a la It's a Wonderful Life?
Or could it be total stillness or even your baby's laughter.

Water. Years ago, when I could not bring myself to attend church formally, I would go to the ocean and worship, petition with prayer and seek the stillness and majesty of God. Roaring seas or tinkling brook - the sound of moving water is always divine.

The sound of a cappella voices resonating off the stone walls of a medieval cathedral. To me, these echoes fill a space that represent heaven on Earth, and as this music defines human-made (yet divinely inspired) spaces; I can sense God’s ancient and steadfast faithfulness to us throughout time.

The first sound I can immediately associate with the divine would be the whipping and whaling of the wind. If had a second choice it would be the slapping of an ocean’s waves against the rocks - leading to the land connecting the ocean and the rocks. To me those sounds are strong, consistent and require recognition; and have both been around since the beginning of time.

To me the sound of the wind blowing leaves in the fall, the ocean roaring in ferocity, the patter of a cleansing rain and the sound of a cat purring while bathing in the warmth of the sun are the divine connection…......
