On Monday night, about a dozen women gathered at Myrtle Grove Evangelical Presbyterian Church for a celebration. One year ago, the first Word Weavers group in Wilmington was launched by writer Andy Lee (also a blogger for WilmingtonFAVS), and the tight knit group of writers assembled to share in a meal together and to hear one of their own read from her published book.

Mae Knight Brock, author of "Snippets from Whiskey Creek," read several pieces from the work.

The book is a compilation of Mrs. Brock’s experiences in motherhood, marriage, loss and love (and much more) as she lives her life in a house on Whiskey Creek in south Wilmington. Her words of loss and comfort in God moved most of the women to tears. But her wit and positivity also brought most to laughter.

Word Weavers started nationally in 1997 as a group dedicated to providing a forum for Christian writers to critique each other’s work in order to learn about and improve the writing craft.  The Wilmington chapter meets once a month at Myrtle Grove Presbyterian in the Monkey Junction area. For more information, please contact Andy Lee at 910-515-1623.
