The sixth annual celebration of International Day of Peace, sponsored by the Southeast North Carolina chapter of Grandmothers For Peace, will be held at 6 p.m. Friday (Sept. 21) in Hugh MacRae Park (Shelter #4).

Peace Day was established by a United Nations resolution in 1981.  Each year on Sept. 21, individuals and organizations from 175 nations gather to promote peace in their communities and the world.

This celebration is a family event, and everyone can bring a chair or blanket for peaceful readings and music including the Wilmington Community Drummers.

"Our hope is to inspire peace in our individual homes, our communities, and our world," said Lynn Heritage, the event's organizer.
