St. Mark Catholic Church in Wilmington has a new 370-niche columbarium for its parish family.
The Rev. Msgr. David D. Brockman, Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Raleigh, led a blessing and dedication service for the columbarium at the parish off Eastwood Road on Aug. 9.
Planning for the project began two years ago and is part of a larger building plan at the parish including a gym/auditorium for the parish and St. Mark Catholic School and an additional 200 parking spaces. Total cost of the entire project was $3.9 million.
The columbarium is divided into four sections: Crucifixion, Holy Family, Our Lady of Lourdes and our Faith Journey. The Faith Journey section includes images of Jesus in the Jordan River (Baptism), the Last Supper (Eucharist), the Cross (Redemption), the Tomb (Resurrection), and the Assumption of Mary.
