Wendy Block, wife of Frank Block, died on June 25, 2012 at the age of 72.
The daughter of Selma and Samuel Barshay, she was born August 12, 1939 in Summerville, South Carolina. She attended Summerville public schools and Ashley Hall Girls School in Charleston, South Carolina.
Wendy is survived by her husband of 53 years, Frank Block, her children, Steven Block and his wife Leslie, Amy Deloach and her husband Mark, and Ellen Engelhardt and her husband Steve. Also surviving are her "perfect" grandchildren; Katie, Charles, Graham, Jessi, William, Annie, and Georgia. Others surviving are her sister Jane Burns and husband Tommy and her sister-in-law Mary Levine and husband Alan Goldstein.
Wendy's main goal in life was to fulfill her combined missions of absolute devotion to her family and helping others.
Over the years she has been deeply committed to many organizations including, Junior League, Thalian Hall, Cape Fear Hospice, the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, the North Carolina Dance Theatre, the North Carolina Battleship Commission, and United Jewish Communities. Additionally she was a realtor and the owner of Second Glance Women's Shop.
A funeral service will be held 11am Wednesday June 27, 2012 at B'nai Israel Synagogue, 2601 Chestnut St., Wilmington, NC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation, Lower Cape Fear Hospice, UNCW, Thalian Hall Center For The Performing Arts, Cameron Art Museum, United Jewish Communities or a charity of your choice.
