Music at First presents pianist Domonique Launey on Sunday, April 29, at 5:00 p.m. The concert includes Johann Sebastian Bach's Prelude and Fugue in E Major BWV 878 (WTC II/9), Sonata in A Major Op. 2 No. 2  of Ludwig van Beethoven, and Sonata in B-flat minor, Op. 35 No. 2 of  Frédéric Chopin. Domonique Launey has performed throughout the United States, Europe, and Jamaica as soloist, chamber musician, and accompanist. As featured soloist, Ms. Launey has collaborated with many orchestras such as the Wilmington, Houston Chamber, San Antonio, Oklahoma, Shreveport, Tulare county, L'Orchestre de Chapelle Minimes, and the Tallis Chamber performing concerti of Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Liszt, Beethoven, and W.A. Mozart as well as chamber works of Johann Sebastian Bach, Mendelssohn and Saint-Saëns. In 2010 she was invited to perform the E minor concerto of Chopin with the Tulare county Symphony (California) in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the composer's birth. She joined the Wilmington Symphony on October 22, 2011 performing Liszt's Concerto in E-flat in honor of his 200th birthday as well.

 

As a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Ms. Launey studied with Phillip Martina and Jack Guerry, then later with David Renner and Nancy Garrett at the University of Texas in Austin. While earning her BM and MM degrees at U.T., she was recipient of many awards including First Place in the Wideman International Piano Concerto Competition, the University of Texas concerto Competition and later performed in Fort Worth, Texas in the Van Cliburn Competition. During postgraduate work as a Rotary International Scholar, Ms. Launey studied with Nadine Deletaille in Brussels, Belgium, where she performed as soloist extensively for a year throughout Europe; she returned to Brussels where she was presented with the Gold Medallion for her solo performance at the L'Academie de Musique.

 

Ms. Launey enjoys collaborating with her oldest daughter, violinist Molly Hines, as well as spending relaxing time at the ocean with her family.
