Viewpoint: Does peace equal submission? If so, to whom do you submit?
Steve Lee says, "For Buddhists, the path to this peaceful state does not require submission to any entity - although Buddhists do take refugee in the Buddha as exemplar, his teachings as a path to liberation, and the community of fellow path-travelers. Taking refugee, however, doesn't bring the peace of nibbana. What gives rise to nibbana is the practices of the eightfold path taught by the Buddha. The three training groups of the path include moral development, concentration, and wisdom."
