VIEWPOINTS: What are your favorite holiday recipes?

My mouth waters just thinking about it.

Pressure-cooked green beans. Turkey cooked with apples and carrots. Christmas cake cookies with messy sprinkles and homemade icing my children insisted on slathering on each star-shaped confection.

Many families have favorite recipes they only make at this time of the year during their holiday season.

What are your favorite recipes or dishes that you can't wait for as Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Christmas approach?

We'll add your recipes to a Pinterest board so everyone can try them!

Of all the Thanksgiving foods I “slave over”, my kids’ favorite is the appetizer, sausage balls! Equall parts Jimmy Dean hot sausage, shredded sharp cheddar cheese and Bisquick – kneeded well and rolled into spheres about 1 1/2 inches around. 350 degrees for about 25-30 minutes and voiila! Super easy and super yummy :) Happy Thanksgiving, all!

  3. Bonny Logsdon Burns

Late to the party, but here’s a traditional candy that great grandmother Burns made. I now carry on the tradition of making huge batches and sending to all the relatives across the country. I don’t just love them for their alias….bon bons (my childhood nickname).

It is extremely easy, just time consuming. A little research has shown me that this may not be attributed to the first lady, but as an homage to her (because she loved chocolate). I have found advertisements for it offered at candy companies across the US in the early 1900s.

    1 Cup Butter
1 Box Powdered Sugar + 1 Cup Powdered Sugar
    1 Can Eagle Brand
    1.5 Cup Shredded Coconut
    2 Cups Chopped Pecans

Mix all ingredients until a ball forms. Let stand in the fridge at least 1 hour. Drop by spoonfuls onto wax paper. Place in fridge overnight (I usually freeze overnight). Take them out one at a time and dip in chocolate coating (which is the following melted together):
    1 Cake Paraffin Wax
    1 Package German Chocolate Bar
    1 Package Chocolate Chips
